Stop & Shop launches summer savings event

Stop & Shop is rolling out summer savings across its stores, including a free ice cream giveaway and a lineup of items priced at $1 or less. The grocer announced the promotions Wednesday, aiming to help customers keep costs down during the hotter months.

The centerpiece of the offer is a free ice cream event tied to National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 19. From Friday, July 17 through Thursday, July 23, customers who check in at any Stop & Shop Savings Station kiosk — found at all 350-plus locations — will receive a digital coupon in their GO Rewards account for one free 1.5-quart container of the store’s own brand ice cream. No purchase is required, and the coupon covers all 15 flavors, from vanilla and moose tracks to coffee and neapolitan. The offer is limited to one per household while supplies last.

To activate the deal, shoppers must swipe or scan their existing GO Rewards account at the in-store kiosk. Those who don’t have an account can sign up on the spot. The coupon is automatically loaded and can be redeemed in the freezer aisle. The list of eligible flavors includes: vanilla, vanilla bean, french vanilla, vanilla fudge, cookies & cream, strawberry, moose tracks, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, coffee, chocolate chip, neapolitan, light vanilla, light chocolate, and light cookies & cream.

Stop & Shop is also launching a broader “Dollar Deals” promotion that runs from Friday, July 10 through Thursday, Aug. 16 — a four-week stretch. The items will rotate each week, giving customers fresh reasons to come back. The deals cover fresh produce, snacks, beverages, household essentials, and more, all priced at $1 or under.

Grocery chains often lean into summer promotions to draw families looking for affordable meal options and quick treats. The company’s approach pairs a loss-leader giveaway with a rotating set of staples that lets shoppers build a full meal or stock up on pantry goods without breaking the bank.

The Dollar Deals are designed to help customers assemble meals from start to finish. Examples include Barilla pasta, Hunt’s pasta sauce, and store-brand chicken drums and thighs at $1 per pound, alongside fresh hothouse cucumbers and tomatoes on the vine. For snacks and treats, the lineup includes Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids theater boxes, Pringles Grab & Go cans, freshly baked jumbo cookies, and Hershey’s chocolate bars and marshmallows for s’mores.

Beverage deals feature Gatorade, Powerade, Poland Spring sparkling water, and Lipton drinks — options for hot summer days. Beyond food, the $1-and-under section extends to paper towels, bath tissue, dish soap, Crest toothpaste, and Oral-B toothbrushes.

The event also highlights multicultural favorites such as Goya beans, coconut water, and Maria and Palmerita cookies, reflecting the communities it serves. Items are marked with sales tags in stores and featured in dedicated bins. The Dollar Deals are also available online for the duration of the promotion.
