Giant Eagle cuts prices on 300+ items, holds them

Giant Eagle Inc. has launched a new seasonal pricing initiative this summer, offering reduced and held prices on more than 300 frequently purchased items across its supermarkets. The program, dubbed “On Sale This Season,” runs from July 9 through Labor Day, targeting essentials like proteins, produce, and summer snacks. The move follows a similar effort in the fall of 2025, which drew nearly 2 million households into the promotion. The initiative is explicitly tied to Giant Eagle’s broader corporate strategy, which emphasizes affordability and customer-centric priorities as part of its “Because It Matters” framework. This framework explicitly outlines a commitment to delivering better everyday value, maintaining quality, and enhancing service, all while aligning with what customers identify as their core needs.

Price Cuts on Key Items

The initiative includes discounts on items such as Certified Angus Beef 75% lean ground beef, now priced at $5.99 per pound from $6.69. Green and red seedless grapes are available at $2.49 per pound, down from $2.99. Other items on sale include Family Size Cheez-Its (selected varieties) at $5.99 each from $6.99, Giant Eagle American Cheese at $6.99 per pound from $7.99, JIF Peanut Butter (selected varieties) at $2.99 each from $3.29, Smuckers Jelly (selected 30-ounce varieties) at $2.99 each from $4.79, and Evian Water (6 packs; selected varieties) at $6.99 each from $10.29. Prices for these products remain fixed during the promotional period. The selection of items reflects a focus on high-traffic categories, with an emphasis on household staples that are frequently repurchased, ensuring that savings are accessible to a wide range of customers.

Justin Weinstein, Giant Eagle’s Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer, said the company aimed to address customer demand for value amid rising expenses. “We took learnings from our seasonal pricing efforts last fall and used those insights to deliver a strong savings program that can help customers save all summer long,” he said. The initiative aligns with Giant Eagle’s “Because It Matters” strategy, which emphasizes better everyday value and service. The company’s previous seasonal pricing program in the fall of 2025, which saw significant customer engagement, provided a blueprint for this year’s initiative, including the timing, product categories, and promotional structure.

Customer Response and Strategy

The fall 2025 promotion saw significant engagement, with nearly 2 million households participating. The company’s current initiative mirrors that approach, focusing on items that drive repeat purchases. The savings are available storewide, with no restrictions on quantity or purchase limits. Officials noted that the program reflects a broader commitment to affordability without compromising quality.

Customers can access the discounts through July 9 through Sept. 9, extending beyond Labor Day to ensure a longer period of savings. The initiative does not include items outside the listed categories. The company has not disclosed whether the program will expand beyond the summer season. The selection of products is carefully curated to align with seasonal consumption patterns, ensuring that savings are relevant to customer needs during the summer months.
