United Dairy Farmers (UDF) will deploy fast-charging stations for electric vehicles at six Ohio locations in early 2027, forming a partnership with Electric Era, the infrastructure provider. These six sites, all positioned in Columbus and Cincinnati, represent the first fast chargers ever installed by UDF and align with Ohio’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program. The project aims to address EV charging’s longer refueling times compared to traditional gas stations.

UDF selected newer store formats featuring expanded food and beverage selections, seating areas, and public Wi-Fi to enhance driver comfort during charging stops. The company’s loyalty program will integrate with the charging stations, allowing members to earn rewards for both purchases and EV charging sessions. This marks the first time UDF has incorporated fast chargers into its operations.

The pilot will collect data on charging demand, customer behavior, and loyalty engagement to inform future rollouts. With over 170 stores across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, UDF operates one of the largest convenience store networks in the region. Electric Era’s battery-backed charging systems eliminate the need for extensive electrical upgrades, streamlining installation at the selected locations.

Rob Lindner, UDF’s corporate head of initiatives, emphasized the company’s focus on enhancing the charging experience. “We’re thinking beyond the charger itself and about how we can make those 20 to 30 minute charge times convenient, valuable and enjoyable for our guests,” he said. Unlike previous convenience store expansions that treated EV charging as an add-on, this initiative directly ties infrastructure to customer retention through rewards and personalized offers.
