Tractor Supply opens high-tech Idaho distribution hub

Tractor Supply Company has inaugurated its 11th distribution center in Nampa, Idaho. The 865,000-square-foot facility will initially support 123 stores across nine states during its first year of operation and will create 500 full-time jobs in the region. The site includes 80 truck docks designed to optimize inbound and outbound traffic flow, along with additional acreage set aside for potential future expansion. Tractor Supply ranks No. 83 in the Top 1000 Database, which tracks North America’s largest online retailers by annual ecommerce sales and other key metrics.

The Nampa center marks the first in Tractor Supply’s network to incorporate Order Storage and Retrieval/Automated Storage and Retrieval System (OSR/ASRS) technology. This system automates the movement of products, sequences inventory, and ensures safe, efficient handling. The company reports that all team leaders at the facility have undergone training in artificial intelligence basics, and the site employs a dedicated AI Innovation Team to apply practical AI solutions to operational challenges. Tractor Supply also appears at No. 225 in Digital Commerce 360’s new AI Rankings, which are available exclusively in the Top 1000 Pro with AI Database.

Craig Ledbetter, chief supply chain officer, emphasized the center’s importance in accelerating order fulfillment for customers. He noted that the investment enhances worker safety and operational efficiency, while also setting a new standard for supply chain performance. The retailer’s decision to locate here reflects its strategic focus on optimizing regional distribution networks to support rapid growth in ecommerce and last-mile delivery.

The distribution center achieves LEED Silver certification for energy and environmental design, scoring between 50 and 69 points out of a possible 110 across metrics like water efficiency, material selection, waste management, and indoor air quality. The silver tier is one of four certification levels, with the lowest standard—“Certified”—requiring only 40 to 49 points. Construction began in 2024, and the building was completed in July 2026, with inventory receipts starting in August and full outbound shipping operations set to begin in October.

At full capacity, the center will serve over 200 stores. As of June 27, Tractor Supply operated 2,463 stores across 49 states and 209 “Petsense by Tractor Supply” locations in 23 states. Hal Lawton, the company’s CEO, discussed logistics strategy at the Barclays 19th Annual Global Consumer Staples Conference in early September, where he highlighted the retailer’s long-standing delivery program. For roughly five to six years, Tractor Supply has offered same-day, two-day, and three-day shipping options nationwide, depending on consumer selection, while also expanding its hub-and-spoke delivery model over the past 1.5 years.

Under this model, every three to four stores function as a hub to serve four nearby locations, accelerating last-mile delivery growth. The company completed as many deliveries in the first half of 2026 as it did throughout all of 2025, demonstrating faster-than-expected scaling of the initiative. This efficiency gain aligns with the retailer’s broader push to enhance operational agility while maintaining its commitment to customer service standards.
