Angara, an online-only jewelry retailer, is changing its strategy for the Cyber 5 shopping period by focusing on real-time adjustments instead of relying on traditional forecasting methods. The five-day holiday window—spanning Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday—now serves as a critical test for how quickly retailers can respond to shifting consumer preferences, especially in categories like jewelry where trends evolve rapidly.

Conventional jewelers typically finalize inventory plans months before peak seasons, but by then, consumer tastes may have already shifted. Ankur Daga, Angara’s co-founder and CEO, explained that the company’s 2025 holiday season highlighted the importance of agility. “The companies that can listen and adapt in real time have a very different advantage from those trying to predict the customer months ahead,” he said.

Angara avoids holding large quantities of finished inventory, instead using a just-in-time manufacturing approach. This system lets the retailer track demand, such as preferences for specific gemstone types, shapes, or metal finishes, and adjust production accordingly. For instance, during Cyber 5, sales data reveals growing interest in lab-grown gemstones and stones exceeding one carat, along with higher demand for oval and emerald-cut shapes.

This strategy reflects broader shopping patterns. While some consumers opt for premium purchases during the holidays, others prioritize affordability, creating a K-shaped demand curve. Angara addresses both groups by offering a range of gemstone options, sizes, and qualities while ensuring production capacity can expand with demand.

The retailer’s flexibility also extends to its supply chain. By integrating production with real-time sales data, Angara reduces waste and aligns output with actual demand. During peak periods, the focus remains on ensuring ecommerce and manufacturing systems can handle sudden spikes without disruption.

Personalization and conversion optimization

Angara’s method for boosting conversion rates and average order value centers on providing customers with more choices while simplifying their decisions. Unlike traditional retailers that promote a single product or price point, Angara allows customization across metals, gemstones, stone quality, and the choice between lab-grown or natural options. This flexibility enables shoppers to tailor purchases based on their priorities, whether that means size, material, or budget.

Since jewelry purchases often require thorough research, Angara is enhancing its product pages with detailed content and educational resources. These improvements have led to a 500% year-over-year increase in traffic from its top three AI-driven referral sources, according to Daga. Rather than cutting costs by reducing material quality, Angara emphasizes value through gemstone size, customization options, or material upgrades.

The Cyber 5 period is not just about sales volume for Angara but about demonstrating that a data-driven, just-in-time model can surpass traditional forecasting. The retailer’s position as the 363rd largest North American ecommerce business and its ranking at 192 in Digital Commerce 360’s AI Rankings suggest its approach is effective in a crowded market.

The company’s busiest seasons, holiday shopping and Valentine’s Day, align with peak engagement times. Daga noted that preparation involves more than inventory management; it requires scaling manufacturing capacity, technology infrastructure, and system redundancy to accommodate unpredictable demand surges. While other retailers often face challenges with overstock or stockouts, Angara’s model minimizes these risks by maintaining close alignment with real-time data.
